Facebook through her eyes
I used to know this girl, I think she is a perfect example of the evolution of Facebook.
When she stopped adding glitter backgrounds on her Myspace page, her friends wanted to her to sign up this new thing called Facebook. They told her it was a great way to get in touch with her old school mates. As popular as she is today, she would love the chance to show her old friends how well she has done lately. She started adding friends, co-workers, and people she knew, not long after, her entire social network is online.
Photos upload, then the tagging starts. She became the social lubricant between people. Appearing on countless profile pictures. Not to mention how many birthdays she gets invited to. At her 21st Birthday party, you should have seen how many people turned up. And guess how they got invited?
Before you know it, it started to become her. When she gets home from her office in the evenings, first thing she does is log onto Facebook. Just to see if anyone posted any comments on her “going home” status from work. Weekends she is out with her camera, taking photos at the night scene. By Sunday morning, her latest photo updates will be tagged.
She doesn’t get Twitter, she thinks Facebook does just the same thing, but with photos. Nor she knows about Digg, Tumblr, or Wordpress. To her they are all just websites. Yet Facebook is getting kind of old, she realised it when her mum added her as a friend, which she soon regretted. So what’s next? Who knows? Maybe Facebook is here to stay, as much I would like to disregard its purpose, people are still spending more than half of their online time on Facebook, that’s a lot of photos to go through.
